Do I require road tax and insurance?

No. All Powabyke models are classed as normal bicycles.

It is wise to insure your vehicle against theft and third party liability.

Powabyke have arranged a special priced policy with a company called Cycleguard.

Details are supplied with each bike.

How fast will it go?

To gain exemption from road tax, insurance and wearing a motor cycle crash helmet, we have to restrict the powered speed to 15 mph. You can of course pedal the bike faster than this speed if you wish to.

Do I need to pedal?

No, once the Powabyke reaches 2 mph the motor power will take over and propel you at the desired speed up to 15 mph.

You can supplement the battery power any time by using the pedals, for example on steep hills. This will increase the range of the battery. You can ride a Powabyke model like a normal bike with or without the battery connected.

What is the range of the Powabyke?

The range from a fully charged battery is approximately 20 miles without pedalling on all two wheel models. In addition the Euro-Bike has a range of over 30 miles in power assist mode. In power assist mode you have to keep pedalling whilst using the motor.

Distance is also dependant on weight of rider and gradients encountered on your journey.

What are the running costs?

To fully charge the battery, which takes 8 hours, will use approximately 0.75 kW of electricity, typically less than 5 pence.

Also the battery will need changing every 250 charges at a cost of £105.00 through our recycling system.

The price includes collecting you old battery and returning it to you completely rebuilt with new cells. This service takes three working days. This gives a running cost of approximately 2 pence per mile.

Is the Powabyke expensive to maintain?

No, other than recharging the battery (around 5 pence per charge) after use they are as simple as a normal bicycle to maintain. The only part to require special attention is the electric motor which will need servicing at around 5000 miles.
